Contact Owner Of Feeder Station - Stale Data Issue
« on: 11 February, 2016, 07:24:48 pm »
Hello All,

Is it possible to contact the owner of a particular feeder to AISHUB? I ask as I've been noticing the past few days that station ID 2178 (Vancouver 3) seems to be regurgitating a lot of old/stale AIS data. For example, right now the Bulk Carrier Karpaty (MMSI: 636015815 IMO: 9582506) is off the West Coast of Vancouver Island, BC, yet AISHUB is showing 2 sources  for this vessel (myself [2202] and Van 3 [2178])! And, according to the data I'm seeing (through track histories) that the data from 2178 is placing the vessel in Vancouver harbour, specifically at the berth she was at. Another example is the tug Seaspan Commodore. This vessel is presently in Nootka Sound (and outside my range), yet AISHUB shows her at the fuel dock in Vancouver. And my track history shows her transiting up the coast to Nootka Sound (interspersed with plot points at the Vancouver fuel dock).  Another good example is the cargo ship Star Luster (MMSI: 258007000 IMO: 9603805). This vessel is currently in Vancouver, Washington (as per marinetraffic.com), yet AISHUB shows her west of Vancouver International Airport. And I have many other examples as well.

It seems that this station appears to be stuck in a loop with its ship table, and is sending out data that is no longer valid. And this table is growing as more vessels are received by this station. As such, this is making a hash of my track history data. Not to mention a very messy Google Earth screen. And I'm sure it's creating issues for others as well. :(

So, is there a way to pass a message to the owner/operator of ID 2178 (or hope he/she reads this) to maybe reboot the computer/AIS gear to clear out all the stale data, and to restore proper operation of his/her station?

Regards,
Mike

And of course, not 2 hours after I post the OM, the feeder stops sending the old data. ::) Wonder if the owner discovered the gear was acting up. Anyway, all appears back to normal now.

Cheers!
