aisdispatcher queries Nameserver for every sent UDP Packet
« on: 29 July, 2016, 07:22:24 pm »
hi,

while playing around with aisdispatcher_arm_glibc on a raspberry pi, and i found out that
using hostnames for causes a DNS lookup per host per sent UDP packet.
$ aisdispatcher -i -H data.aishub.net:12345,otherhost:12345,...

using ip adresses saves lots of money if you run it on prepaid 3G  ;)
$ aisdispatcher -i -H 144.76.105.244:12345,192.168.0.100:12345

In my case a typical AIS Packet sent via UDP is 91 bytes, NS Query + Answer is 338 bytes
thats almost 3.7 times DNS Traffic to AIS Data.
