AIS receiver with a NSLU2
« on: 15 March, 2011, 09:41:04 pm »
I am going to attempt to setup an NSLU2 as an AIS receiver using gnuais with a USB sound card.  I am in the process of setting up a build environment and have a USB sound card on order.

What is the packet format for UDP?  Would it be possible to use netcat to send the UDP packets to AIS Hub?

The UDP packet should contain standard AIS message (NMEA) only. It should have trailing 0x0d 0x0a bytes. Don't add additional data, just use pure NMEA strings.

I received the USB sound card, unfortunately I can't get it to decode anything (AIS or APRS).  The recording quality sounds horrible on it.  I'm going to try to modify the input, but it doesn't look good so far.
