How do I retrieve AIS historial data for a port
« on: 13 November, 2012, 12:44:05 am »
Hi all I need help.
I am doing an academic project and I need a data for a statistical model about near-shore vessel movement.
I am completely new to AIS and could someone tell me:
1) Where can I get real-data for a certain port?
2) If 1) is yes where can I get the data and is there any decoding software required?

Thank you.

If you need a specific port you should buy an AIS receiver+antenna and start receiving data.
Yes, you need decoding software. You can search Google  for GNUAIS - a free open source decoder.

I have gnuais up and running and correctly reading data from the receiver. Does anyone know how to configure gnuais.conf to stream to AisHub via UDP? I can't find any instructions on how to do this. Thank you!

Basically I just want the historical data from port Singapore. As I read from the AIS Live Ship Map there is one station located in Singapore, so is it possible that I retrieve data from the station (or buy)? Is there any legal issue with that?
